What is a Currency Converter?

A Currency Converter instantly translates one country's currency into another using real-time or near-real-time exchange rates. Whether you're a traveler planning an overseas trip, an international business paying suppliers in foreign currencies, an online shopper buying from overseas websites, or a freelancer invoicing clients abroad, currency conversion is an everyday necessity. Exchange rates fluctuate constantly based on forex market movements — the USD/EUR rate can shift 1-2% in a single day. Our converter supports all major currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, AUD, CAD, CHF, INR, etc.) and uses up-to-date mid-market rates for accurate conversions.

How Does It Work?

Select your source and target currencies, enter the amount, and the converter applies the current exchange rate. The core formula: Converted Amount = Source Amount × Exchange Rate. For example, if 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, then $100 = €92. The inverse rate works in reverse: 1 EUR = 1.087 USD. Important: mid-market rates are the 'true' rate between buy and sell. Banks and money transfer services add a markup (typically 1-3% for banks, 0.3-0.5% for services like Wise), so your actual received amount may be slightly lower.

Formula

Converted Amount = Source Amount × Exchange Rate\n\nInverse Rate = 1 ÷ Direct Rate\n\nSpread = (Sell Rate − Buy Rate) ÷ Mid-Market Rate × 100%\nEffective Cost = Transfer Amount × (1 + Spread%)

Frequently Asked Questions about Currency Converter

Why is the rate I see different from what my bank gives me?

Banks and money transfer services don't use the mid-market rate — they add a markup (spread). A 2% markup on a $5,000 transfer costs you $100. Always check the actual rate you're getting and compare to the current mid-market rate.

How often do exchange rates update?

Forex markets trade 24/6 (Sunday 5pm EST to Friday 5pm EST). Major currency pairs update every second during market hours. Weekend rates reflect Friday's close and don't change until the Asian session opens.

What's the strongest currency in the world?

As of 2026, the Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD) remains among the strongest currencies by nominal value, with 1 KWD ≈ $3.25 USD. Other strong currencies include the Bahraini Dinar (BHD), Omani Rial (OMR), and British Pound (GBP).
